Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an extremely effective (non-water) fire extinguishing agent. Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide (CO2) which is at a temperature of -78° C (-109° F). It has the unique property to sublimate directly into vapor when exposed to normal atmospheric pressure.
